Description:  I was reading an article in the August 2013 issue of Trains magazine by David Thomas and noticed a photo similar to mine. It was about the rise of crude oil shipment on North American rails and the backlog of tank car production. It will surely become a common sight! A mile of brand spanking new oil cans. I bet they won't stay that way long.

Old caboose

Description:  I have watched this local shove work in the Newton yard before and always wondered, why do they drag along this old boarded up caboose? Then one evening as I took this shot of the train backing up it hit me, flashing lights on top of the engine indicated it was in remote control and the driver was standing on the platform of this caboose. There are 2 major grade crossings to pass on the return to the yard and this affords a place for the engineer to stand and check the track.

Description:  Return to train in reverse with empty lumber rack in the lead. The crew will couple up with their main train about 4 miles away, then enter the Newton switch yard and drop a string of loaded propane cars. Then return to McPherson and position the empty tanks back at the loading station in Conway.
